Evie's words pull him out of his thoughts, and he offers her the most amiable smile he can manage under the circumstances. "I can see why. I would venture to say it would take a combination of all of the cities in the colonies to equal it in expanse and population."
He clasps his hands together, shifting his gaze to the nearby docks.
"Not quite so large as that," she admits, "though many certainly behave as though London is the very centre of civilization. An opinion not entirely undeserved, I suppose." Particularly when one considered just how vast and sprawling the British Empire actually was.
Propping her chin on her palm, it takes Evie a moment longer before she chooses to respond. "In some ways, perhaps." She knew it well enough that the risk of becoming lost was minimal, save when out at night, and even then she would often simply take to the rooftops. Aleck's modification to their gauntlet had proven to be invaluable, particularly when it came to speedy travel. "However, I doubt it will ever feel quite right in the way that a home should."
A beat. "I understand." He props a boot up on a chimney, resting his arms on his thigh. "It saddens me - to think that this is what the colonies may become. To think this is what they may be." He glances to a nearby smokestack, but does not say anything. Elaboration, he thinks, is not necessary.
"I have reflected enough on my state for one day, I think." He takes his boot off the chimney, turning to face Evie now. "I admit to a sort of curiosity regarding your city and its attractions. Would you be so kind as to show me around?"

"You have since acclimated? To the city."
